There is no single estimate for every worker
Start by identifying whether your record is under a public-sector, private-sector, GCC extension or another applicable arrangement. A general example cannot establish your retirement eligibility, salary basis, service credit or final pension. Ask SIO for an estimate based on your own insurance record.
- Check the employment periods and salary figures recorded by SIO.
- Confirm the proposed retirement date and the rules applicable to your scheme.
- Ask how breaks, transferred service and any purchased periods affect your case.

What does SIO’s public-sector example say?
In its Retirement Pension FAQs, SIO labels the basic public-sector formula as average salary multiplied by length of service, divided by 50. The same section describes 2% for each year of service, with 35 years corresponding to 70%.
For illustration only, an average salary of BHD 1,000 and 20 years in that formula gives BHD 400 per month before any case-specific conditions or adjustments. This arithmetic does not confirm eligibility or the amount SIO will award. Do not apply the public-sector example automatically to a private-sector record.

Expatriate end-of-service benefits are a different question
SIO’s non-Bahraini end-of-service gratuity guidance concerns covered private-sector workers and a scheme effective from 1 March 2024. It should not be substituted with a retirement-pension percentage. Earlier service and the applicable benefit basis need separate treatment.
- Use the end-of-service guide linked below for the reviewed scheme summary.
- Check the relevant SIO record and employer obligations before accepting a settlement calculation.

Before making a retirement decision
Obtain a case-specific calculation and confirm the rules for normal, early, disability or survivor benefits where relevant. Keep the authority’s response with your service and salary records. This guide does not promise a minimum pension, an automatic annual increase or a fixed reduction for each year of early retirement.
