Choose the main applicant’s route first

Start with the reason for moving: employment, an eligible investment, family reunification or a qualifying longer-term residence category. NPRA manages entry and residence matters, while LMRA work-permit services address employment. A visit permission and an application in progress do not establish the same status as an issued residence or work permit.

  • Ask the employer which work-permit process applies before arranging a work start date.
  • For investor self-sponsorship, assess the official ownership and income evidence before relying on a company-formation package.
  • For Golden Residency, check the applicable category rather than assuming eligibility from a property purchase or job title.

Which residence service matches my situation?

Use NPRA’s residence-services directory to identify the exact category before preparing documents. It separates family residence, student residence, Golden Residency and self-sponsorship services. A category listing is not confirmation that an applicant qualifies.

  • Employee’s spouse or child up to age 24: check the relevant LMRA dependant service with the employer’s authorised applicant.
  • Resident’s parent or child above 24: check NPRA’s separate direct-family residence service and its issuance or renewal requirements.
  • Existing resident: identify whether the task is renewal, a passport-information update or cancellation rather than starting a new application.

Prepare family applications by relationship

LMRA has separate spouse and child residency services. For these services, the employee’s monthly net income registered with SIO must be at least BHD 400, and the applicant must be authorised on the establishment record. The child service covers children up to age 24 and refers older dependants to NPRA conditions. Do not extend the spouse and child rules automatically to parents.

Check documents before arranging attestation

A spouse application uses marriage evidence, while a child application uses birth evidence and may need consent, custody or other family documents. Both official services specify passport and health-insurance evidence. Authentication and translation requirements depend on the document and circumstances; use the precise checklist before paying to certify an entire file.

  • Check names and dates across passports and civil certificates.
  • Check the existing permit remains valid if the dependant is already in Bahrain.
  • For a child born in Bahrain or issued a new passport there, check the NPRA record-opening or update step described by LMRA.

Avoid gaps between business and residence planning

The investor self-sponsorship checklist requires a qualifying ownership share, income, insurance, accommodation and financial records. These checks are distinct from obtaining a company’s registration. Plan company and personal applications together, but keep their approvals, charges and expiry dates separate.

Before travel and after approval

Use the issued documents and current authority records to confirm each person’s permission and validity. For visit travel, the eVisa conditions determine the authorised stay and entries; a visa does not guarantee admission. Keep application references and copies of approved documents available, and confirm any employment permission separately.

  • Do not promise a relocation date based only on an advertised processing estimate.
  • Maintain a separate checklist for each family member.
  • Ask the authority to resolve a status discrepancy before making commitments dependent on approval.
