Professional applicants: salary history matters
The official criteria describe a professional who has worked in Bahrain for at least five years with an average monthly basic salary over BHD 2,000 during the preceding five years. The applicant must have been continuously insured with SIO for that amount throughout the period. Bonuses, allowances and other benefits are excluded from this basic-salary test.
- Check the historical SIO record, not only the current employment offer.
- A recent pay rise alone does not establish the five-year salary and insurance history.

Property applicants: assess your personal share
The published threshold is a total personal property share value of at least BHD 130,000 at the time of purchase. A single property or combined shares across multiple properties can meet the value test. The relevant figure is the applicant’s own share; do not assume the whole value of a jointly owned property belongs to one applicant.

Retiree and talent categories
A resident retiree must have worked in Bahrain for at least 15 years and receive a pension of at least BHD 2,000. The non-resident retiree category specifies a pension of at least BHD 4,000. These are separate categories; do not apply one category’s income test to another.
The talent categories include entrepreneurs, researchers and scientists, artists, innovators, athletes and other exceptional talent. These applications are subject to committee approval; a business idea or professional title alone is not an approval.

Residence status and employment permission
The official programme describes Golden Residency as permanent residence. That description does not establish citizenship or unrestricted permission to undertake every job. LMRA provides a dedicated one- or two-year work permit for Golden Residency holders who wish to work.
LMRA expressly excludes a Golden Residency holder who is an investor and a partner in the establishment from needing that particular Golden Residency work permit. Check that this exception actually matches your role and establishment; do not generalise it to all residence holders or all business activities.
- For employees covered by the service, check the employer’s application and any profession-specific approval before starting work.
- The service allows renewal six months before expiry. Its instructions for changing employer should not be confused with the ordinary employee-transfer process.

Prepare an evidence-led application
First identify the category that fits your actual history, ownership or achievements. Assemble the supporting records required by the current application service, and resolve discrepancies in names, dates or ownership shares before submission. Do not buy property or make an irreversible investment solely on an assumption of approval.
- Professionals: check basic salary, employment history and SIO evidence.
- Property applicants: check title deeds and the value of personal ownership shares.
- Retirees: check service and pension evidence for the correct category.
- Talent applicants: prepare evidence relevant to the achievements being assessed.
