Start with the issued permission
Record the permit category, responsible authority and expiry date for each person. NPRA handles entry and residence matters, while LMRA handles the relevant work-permit processes. Do not use the existence of an ID card or company registration as a substitute for checking an active residence or employment permission.
- Keep the passport details and application reference with the issued permit record.
- Check the employee and each dependant separately.
- Resolve conflicting records with the responsible authority before travel or starting work.

Employee-linked renewal
The ordinary LMRA work-permit renewal service is submitted by a registered responsible or authorised person. Its conditions and renewal window depend on the permit period. It permits renewal while the employee is outside Bahrain only while the work permit remains valid. Plan the employer’s renewal action before an overseas trip overlaps the expiry date.

Family records need attention too
LMRA states that dependant permits are renewed with the employee’s work permit under its renewal service. A new dependant application has its own relationship and document conditions. Do not assume a change in family circumstances, a new passport or a child crossing an age boundary is resolved simply by renewing the employee’s permit.
- LMRA’s child service covers children up to age 24; older dependants are directed to NPRA conditions.
- For a Bahrain-born child or a new passport issued there, check the NPRA record procedure described by LMRA.
- Confirm the correct route for parents and other relatives instead of applying spouse or child rules to everyone.

Special categories use separate procedures
Domestic-employee permits have their own renewal service. Golden Residency holders who need employment permission use the dedicated LMRA service, subject to its investor-partner exception. Investor self-sponsorship residence is another separate service. Select the exact category before relying on a renewal checklist or quoted fee.

If expiry or a mismatch has already occurred
A routine renewal guide cannot establish your lawful status after expiry. Contact the relevant authority promptly to identify the correct transaction and any residence issue. Do not rely on a universal grace period, automatic extension or assumed daily penalty. Keep the dates and authority responses documented.
