Who can submit and when?
The applicant must be registered with LMRA as a responsible or authorised person. The service offers six-month, one-year and two-year renewal periods. LMRA states that one- and two-year permits can be renewed six months before expiry, and six-month permits five months before expiry.
- Check the existing permit period and expiry date before scheduling the application.
- Use the employer’s authorised EMS access and keep the application reference.
- Do not wait for an assumed post-expiry grace period.

Passport, medical and overseas checks
The published renewal requirement is at least two months of passport validity. For professions requiring periodic medical examinations, the examination must be completed before renewal under the applicable Ministry of Health rules; LMRA refers to a two-year interval for that requirement. Check whether the employee’s profession is covered.
Renewal while the employee is outside Bahrain is allowed only if the work permit is still valid. An expired permit abroad should not be treated as an ordinary online renewal case without authority guidance.

Submission and payment are separate steps
After submitting through EMS, pay the administration fee before the invoice due date; LMRA states that the application is cancelled if this deadline is missed. Complete the renewal-fee payment and check validation. Payment alone does not remove the requirement to satisfy the renewal rules.
- Check the invoice due date as well as the permit expiry date.
- Retain receipts and confirm the renewed record after payment.
- Respond to any outstanding authority requirement rather than assuming the application is finished.

Check the full invoice and dependants
LMRA publishes different renewal charges for six-month, one-year and two-year permits and a separate administration charge. Its listed renewal amounts include healthcare within the relevant total, so avoid adding the same component twice when comparing a quotation. The service also describes dependant renewal alongside the employee; check the dependants shown in the transaction.

When this guide does not apply
Domestic employees have a separate renewal service, and Golden Residency holders have a dedicated employment-permit procedure. A change of employer is also a different transaction from an ordinary renewal. Confirm the correct service if employment, residence category or passport details have changed. The authority’s processing estimate is not a guaranteed completion date.
